Going down my drive the other day, I happened to notice this tree laden with these orange fruits. A bit of Googling and I came up with wild Persimmons. Purportedly when ripe they are delicious, but catching them at their peak of ripeness is somewhat tricky. These are hard and not yet ripe as none had fallen from the tree and experimenting with trying to pull one off proved that they are on pretty snuggly which explains how they've managed to stay intact through some of the heavy winds we've had lately. It's odd that this year it's got so much fruit on it whereas the across-the-drive neighboring black walunt has no nuts on it at all after last year's record harvest. Nature is sure funny sometimes...
